2009 is the 250th anniversary of Samuel Johnson's "Dictionary." This poem is
from Christopher Bursk's Patterson Poetry Prize-winning collection The
First Inhabitants of Arcadia. It is about the human side of Johnson and
about language and words, and letters. The book itself is a sort of homage
to the alphabet, and to a man whose famous Preface to the "Dictionary"
provided Bursk with the title for his collection.
